Anti-discrimination legislations and employment rights for People with Disabilities PWDs have moved to the central of policy in developed countries. The emerging importance of the role and future of PWDs in society is necessitated by a paradigm shift from a 'charity' to a 'human rights' approach. According to the 'human rights' approach, the universal human rights to a better quality of life should not be the sole exclusivity of able-bodied citizens only; but a privilege extended to PWDs too. In Malaysia, the 'human rights' approach is slowly permeating into the country's politico-institutional mechanisms reflected in national agendas such as the Vision blueprint that advocates a sustainable, caring and socially-inclusive Malaysian society.

Workplace moral harassment and its consequences: A case study in a federal higher education institution. Vera L. This paper aims to characterize a case of moral harassment in a federal institution of higher education and to identify its consequences for the different actors. We carried out a descriptive and qualitative case study and collected data by means of documentary research with an analysis of the related administrative process, which includes statements of those involved in the case, and an in-depth interview with the harassed employee. For the organization, the occurrences generated degradation in the workplace and in motivation and the team split, as well as income decline and other financial losses. Emotions in the workplace
Empathy plays a critical interpersonal and societal role, enabling sharing of experiences, needs, and desires between individuals and providing an emotional bridge that promotes pro-social behavior. Studies show empathy declines during medical training. Without targeted interventions, uncompassionate care and treatment devoid of empathy, results in patients who are dissatisfied. They are then much less likely to follow through with treatment recommendations, resulting in poorer health outcomes and damaged trust in health providers. Cognitive empathy must play a role when a lack of emotional empathy exists because of racial, ethnic, religious, or physical differences. Healthcare settings are no exception to conscious and unconscious biases, and there is no place for discrimination or unequal care afforded to patients who differ from the majority culture or the majority culture of healthcare providers. Much work lies ahead to make healthcare equitable for givers and receivers of healthcare from all cultures.
How to Promote Racial Equity in the Workplace
The psychological impact of these public events — and the way it carries over into the workplace — cannot be overstated. Research shows that how organizations respond to large-scale, diversity-related events that receive significant media attention can either help employees feel psychologically safe or contribute to racial identity threat and mistrust of institutions of authority. The authors offer three missteps to avoid —keeping silent, becoming overly defensive, and overgeneralizing — as well as ways that companies and leaders can take meaningful action. The United States is in crisis.
Many White people deny the existence of racism against people of color because they assume that racism is defined by deliberate actions motivated by malice and hatred. However, racism can occur without conscious awareness or intent. When defined simply as differential evaluation or treatment based solely on race, regardless of intent, racism occurs far more frequently than most White people suspect. As intractable as it seems, racism in the workplace can be effectively addressed. Because organizations are small, autonomous entities that afford leaders a high level of control over norms and policies, they are ideal sites for promoting racial equity.
What works to reduce prejudice and discrimination? - A review of the evidence
Discrimination — in all its possible forms and expressions — is one of the most common forms of human rights violations and abuse. It affects millions of people everyday and it is one of the most difficult to recognise. Discrimination and intolerance are closely related concepts. Intolerance is a lack of respect for practices or beliefs other than one's own. It also involves the rejection of people whom we perceive as different, for example members of a social or ethnic group other than ours, or people who are different in political or sexual orientation.
Emotions in the workplace play a large role in how an entire organization communicates within itself and to the outside world. The consequences of emotional states in the workplace , both behaviors and attitudes, have substantial significance for individuals, groups, and society". It is crucial "to create a publicly observable and desirable emotional display as a part of a job role.
